Creating a School Room

As many of us face long term school closures due to COVID-19 we now have to set up learning spaces within our homes. I wanted to set up a space for the girls that would be quite, functional and of course cute.

In the spare bedroom we already had one of these desks so I decided to just order another one so they could each have their own. Then I styled the rest of the room around the desks. I wanted the space to have a fun boho vibe. I feel like all the pieces I pulled together for this space did just that, and I’m so happy with the way it turned out!

When planning a space the first thing I think about is layout and how I want to space to function. After that I browse all of my favorite retailers in search of products for the space. I draw or create a digital mood board to put my vision on paper and make sure that all the products flow well together. I was so excited that my original vision came to life just as I imagined it. This isn’t always the case sometimes, I have to makes changes or adjustments along the way. I'm happy that this space came together pretty seamlessly.

When picking the chairs, I wanted something padded and comfy. I also knew I didn’t want desk chairs and definitely not rolling chairs because they would be a major distraction. I found these chairs for the space and absolutely love them!

Next, I searched for a rug, I wanted something patterned and fun! I found this rug and loved the print! The only downfall is the largest size it comes in is a 5X7. So I ended up getting two of them.

Searching for wall art was easy! I follow @threadmama_story on Instagram. She creates printable art and always has new designs coming out. I saw these prints on her page and new they would be perfect for the space. You can check out her website here. After I purchased the prints I found these poster frames . I love the color!! I took my downloads to my local Office Depot had them printed on 55lbs paper. My frames are 18x24 so that is the size I had them printed.

Guys, Target is seriously the best and the Target app is down right dangerous!! haha!! We’ve become besties and now I order all. the. things!!! I found these cute gold metal and wood shelves from Target and I’m obsessed with them!! #targetdoesitagain

Curtains are also from Target and the color matches the pink chair perfectly, like literally the same color!! I got pretty lucky there!

Accessories

Accessories are so fun!! It‘s what brings the whole look together and makes a space homey and cozy!

Let’s start with what is on the shelves: I purchased the globe at Hobby Lobby is was cheetah print. I just painted it and then hand lettered a quote with chalk marker. I also spray painted the frame brass. I purchased these woven koozies to put over small mason jars to hold pencils and such. I have one the shelf holding some paints. The terra cotta vase is from the Target dollar spot. The faux grass is from Hobby Lobby. I love how it flows with the color scheme. The framed quote is another digital download from Thread Mama. The frame is an old Target frame I’ve had for years.

The second shelf: I purchased this cute First day of school pennant flag from Kind Kids Club. She has the cutest pennant flags and tees. It was the perfect little addition for this new journey of schooling at home. I plan on later putting this into a scrapbook for the girls. A cute decor piece and keepsake all in one! I also placed our “Learn to Letter with Luna the Llama“ hand lettering book By Chalk Full of Love on the shelf. Camrynn, she is 11, loves this book! She loves cursive and wants to be able to write “pretty” haha! I highly recommend this book for kids as well as adults. It’s a really great way to learn or improve your hand lettering skills. The pink pencil holder is from the dollar store. You can definitely find some hidden gems at the dollar store! The beautiful daisy garland is from Pearl and Jane. She has the cutest little shop with the best garlands! She always has really great everyday + holiday garlands, and comes out with cute new design all the time. Loved this stapler!! It’s just pretty and feel very heavy duty! The rattan mirror adds to that fun boho vibe I was going for, you can find it here.

On the desk: The pink vases is also from the dollar store.....I know!! Can you believe it?! The fun faux grass is from Hobby Lobby. The sweet little unicorn “Zara” is from our favorite doll shop Cuddle and Kind. Not only do they make the prettiest hand knit dolls but every doll purchased feeds 10 kids in need!! You can read more about their incredible mission here!

The camera pencil holder is so fun and modern! I knew my oldest would love it. The back to school flags are a digital download from a shop called Olive and Eve Co. She has really pretty and fun back to school pintables. She also does Holiday pintables and activities as well. Right now hand sanitizer is a must, am I right?! I actually always buy hand sanitizer anyways but, now there’s just one in every room, backpack and purse haha!! We love Tubby Todd, it’s an all natural brand free from all the yucky ingredients. They offer lotions and bath products as well. Everything is hypoallergenic and safe for little ones. Check them out here!! Then both of the girls have blue light blocking glasses, all the screen time can wear on their little eyes so I want them to be protected. Plus how cute are these pink ones for kids?! They have other styles and colors as well. Then added these little trays from Target only $3. Then the gold pencil holder for Charlie’s desk is here.

The girls tees are from one of our favorite t-shirt shops June and Gray. I love the message of inclusion of ALL!! We just had to have these tees!! I found this super cute tye dye backpack for Camrynn, the quality is great and it’s just so pretty. For Charlie I found this sweet little mini backpack for only $15 such a steal! I added some cute monogram sticker patches from Micheals to the front of each of their backpacks for a fun monogram look.

Then, I added a little supply cart to the room to house all of their art supplies. Used these frosted cups to hold their extensive collection of gel pens and markers. I found these little bins for tape, glue, eraser and pencil sharpeners. I also added these wall bins, which I painted to match the decor. We have work that has to be dropped off to the teacher every two weeks so their rerun folders/work goes in these.

I hope you enjoyed our School Room reveal and it provides some inspiration!

Wishing you and your families a wonderful school year no matter what that looks like. We are all in this together!!
