Valentine Clay Necklaces
Supplies:
Air dry clay
Rope, twine or string of choice for necklace
Beads
Embroidery thread
Fabric scraps
Wooden skewer
Gold paint pen
(Key chains of you want to make a keychain instead)
initially I bough Juno rings but they ended up being too small, so we just tried the spring of the necklace to the clay charm pieces.
Roll out clay and cut out shapes. you want to make sure your shapes are just the righ size for a necklace. We used cookie cutters. For the rainbows we used a circle then cut them in half.
Take a wooden skewer and poke a hole at the top for your string. Let clay air dry 2-3 days.
While still wet you can stamp letters onto your shapes if you'd like.
Camrynn made one for each of her friends with their initial.
Once the clay has completely dried
then you can paint them.
Once the paint has dried seal them with some mod podge or other sealant.
Once your sealant has dried tie on your string. We just tied a knot at the top. Then add beads, tassels. fabric or any other cute embellishments.
We used some wooden beads on these ones.
You can use yarn too! We had to use tweezers to help get it through the hole.
NOTE: The Air Dry Clay is not super durable after dried. If dropped they can break. For a more durable piece I would recommend a clay that can be baked like Polymer clay. I think next time we will try that and see how the difference is. For now this is still such a fun craft and the necklaces can def get some wear out of them for the holiday. My girls enjoyed this craft and are excited to gift some necklaces to their friends.
This makes for a cute homemade gift!
