DIY Holiday Doormat

Kicking off the holiday season with a fun and festive DIY doormat. If you’re like me and don’t have a circuit machine and don’t care to purchase one, here is an easy way to make your own DIY stencil.

First select a font(s) you like. You can download fonts for free online or even purchase one. Once you download it to your computer you have access to use it in Microsoft Word or any other word program. I created mine in Photoshop. Then I formatted the size of my file to the size of my doormat which is 18X30. Then saved the files as a JPEG. and took it to my local Office Depot and had them print it on 55lb paper.

Here it is printed.

Then I cut out the letters to create a stencil. Don’t worry about cutting it perfectly. Mine was jagged in some areas.

After I got all the letters cut out my stencil was ready to go! I used liquid Flex Seal paint, but it also comes in a spray form as well. Using the liquid form was definitely time consuming! I'm thinking the spray would be a lot quicker.

I placed this stencil on my mat. I poked toothpicks around the words to hold the mat in place so it wouldn’t move. Then used dabbing motions to paint the Flex Seal on.

Here it is all finished! It wasn’t the easiest DIY and definitely took some time but, worth it to have your own custom doormat!!
